CONDENSATION AND DAMP

Windows running with water every morning?

This is usually not a damp problem. It is a moisture in the air problem, and you cannot ventilate your way out of it in a London flat in January.

0.5 litres

per person per day, just from breathing

2.5 litres

from one load of washing dried indoors

70 litres

a week for a busy household, a full bath into the air

Wiping it treats the symptom. The water is still in the air.

People breathing, showering, cooking and drying washing indoors put litres of water into the air every day. A modern flat is sealed tight, so that water travels until it meets the coldest surface it can find, and there it turns back into liquid.

That is why it always shows up in the same places: the window glass, the wall behind the wardrobe, the corner of the bedroom on the outside wall.

We survey first, because sometimes the answer is no

We are builders, not dehumidifier salesmen. Two different problems look identical on the wall, and only one of them is ours to solve.

Not our job: moisture coming through the building

Rising damp, penetrating damp, a failed seal, cracked render or a leaking gutter. If water is getting in through the fabric, the source has to be fixed first, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a machine.

This we fix: condensation from the air

By far the more common cause in London flats. Take the moisture out of the air continuously and it stops, rather than coming back after the next wipe down.

A permanent unit, not a plastic box you empty

The portable one from the shop

  • Sits in the corner with a lead across the floor
  • Needs emptying every day or two
  • Only works while you remember to run it

What we fit

  • Wall mounted, nothing on the floor
  • Moisture leaves through the wall, nothing to empty
  • Runs quietly all winter
  • The same unit cools the room in summer

Tell us which room

Send a photo of the wall and the room. You will get a fixed written price back, usually the same day.
